Aren’t you afraid of people stealing your ideas and not hiring you?
‘’Ideas are cheap, execution is everything.’’ — Chris Sacca
I love the above quote because it speaks to people thinking they need to guard their idea. We’ve all seen movies where someone steals someone’s idea and then gets rich. I don’t think it works like that. So many things need to happen for a company to make it big. Everything must get executed in a specific way by specific people and with a little luck and a lot of work it could work out. Or something else could happen, outside your control, and it could all come tumbling down.
Having a great idea, and executing a great idea are two entirely different things. I’m putting all this information out there not to get famous, but to show prospective employers what they will get when they bring me on board. They are of course entitled to use all this information and empower their teams with it in any way they see fit, but I know if I were running the business I would never throw a book or a website or a learning guide at someone and say “we’re not going to bring in anyone who knows how to do this, just follow this guide.”
You are of course entitled to use all this information. I am not charging for it, and not gating it in any way. The internet is full of free information.
I love working in companies because it allows me to work and solve problems on something that already exists. The greatest thrill I get out of work is solving a problem with a process, a customer or a product that is already out there. You can certainly start your own business and solve a problem that way, but I prefer to dive right in and get to work. That is why I continue to work in startups and why I join companies instead of founding them.
None of the ideas I share in this site are unique in any specific way. It is just a culmination of what I have learned and what I can bring to a business when working with them.
